America Before Columbus
It is disgusting what passes for science and objectivity. This documentary is Eurocentric and racist. It wants to give the impression that the European invasion was nothing but a result of nature taking its course. The documentary is not really about America Before Columbus, but about the trajectory of Europeans. The music in the background is many times offensive as it makes Europeans seem like epic explorers.
I found the following critique of this Social Darwinist documentary quite on-point, so if you still have any doubts, listen to what this guy has to say:
I can't believe National Geographic let their name be put on propaganda of this sort. Stick to animals and volcanos, NG.
I was shocked by the amount of historical mistakes on this show. Also as a Mayan man, I resent being identified as aztec. aztecs did not live in Central America. The researchers on this show, if they had any, were very ignorant.
p.s. WTF!!! is up with that scene at the end after they very briefly mention slavery and the white "expert" is walking down the street and smugly hands the black, homeless guy some change??? Damn, yo!
@Roberto Henderson The Aztec empire WAS located in Central America as well as Mexico. The Mayan civilization was located east of the Aztec empire. Maybe it's you who's ignorant. Just saying.
