Blackout Survival Tips
Great wake up call! Many of us became dependent on the government when we left the family farm and moved to the city or suburbia with it's public water, sewers and the whole host of public services. The most alarming scenario for me was people living in high rise buildings and the prospect of not having elevators! Yikes!
When it comes to certain types of preparedness, the Weather is under regular forecasts. Look days ahead and set up your readiness. Snow is on the way for some of us. so start thinking about energy production when the lights go out when the local power lines fail.
You left out the essential means of self-defense. Nothing wrong with responsible gun ownership. If you're squeamish about that then invest in non-firearms like a crossbow, machete and riot shield.
Prepare for 18 months not just 2 weeks. Have a few seeds available to grow your own extras. Power transformers take about 6 months to MFG and that's over seas NOT in the USA. The larger ones take 2 years. Water purification is better then water filtering. Ensure you have enough food, fuel and water to last the winter. Hand held fans help some so keep the sun out if it is hot and if its winter let the sun in. Turn off all switches in the electrical panel to prevent power surges. Keep doors and windows locked on the ground floor and take security precautions including your vehicle cause people will try to steel your gasoline, grills, propane tanks, even your food in the garden. So good luck and" be prepared' as my Scout master use to say.
I was watching the show last night and you guessed it my power went out. Living in earthquake country I am kinda prepared but I could always have more water. Way too dramatic for only 8 days, I mean seriously who shaves their legs in a black out? I lugged out loud a few times...
It's funny, I lived through 11 days of dark after Hurricane Charlie and didn't think twice about it. I lived in Ft. Myers, FL and I was ready. There was a hurricane coming. And being from the mountains, well, we get snow on occasion that shuts us down for days. I already prepared my winter stores. And I have a fireplace so I'm better off then most.
But watching American Blackout has my stomach feeling wonky. I don't like prophetic movies/documentaries. This would be such as easy way to get the American People under (almost) total control. Damn, the show just went to marshal law...
This is what the government,is going to do to us,it is the best way for them to take us dn,we are loosing are rights a little bit more every time,they try to blame some other shooting,Our country is blind,
Also something that could really work is create or be part of an association of people who are prepared, that have the same goals and that you can rely on to save each others butts, not all your friends qualify for this, remember that in a dire situation some people just can't handle it. Your group could buy together a piece of property to build an emergency shelter in case of anything, form a leadership or protocol to know what to do in any situation, make decision before your face any problem so when you get to that problem everyone knows what to do, like should you take in survivors or if anyone becomes uncontrollable what should you do, also who should be in control or if any decision should be voted on. Remember this, gangs and mafias are already organized to have each others back and if the police won't be able to come to your aid if someone breaks in into your house, who is going to have your back, the government is prepared to protect themselves and continue government but the only plan that the government has for us is FEMA camps and we all know what happens there ( Katrina, Sandy) there is not enough resources to help everyone you could go months with out help if your only plan is to rely in FEMA .
Covering the basic is a no brainer water, food, heat and batteries are just too basic; think out side the box, like at least one year of condom supplies, nobody wants to get pregnant in a long time blackout, guns and ammo are also a good aid in this time of need, stoking in medicines to treat headaches, colds or flues, diarrhea, prescription medicine, another item to stock are feminine products and TP (toilet Paper), candles, matches, extra gasoline or propane, fire wood, one thing that everyone just forget to stock is cash. In a blackout cash would be the only currency (maybe grass and a$$)
@Laureen Kanyan I agree.
@Mike Polachekster Not a bad design, maybe they just assumed people knew how to use the internet.
