This former Army Infantry Training Officer is turning his attention towards prepping — and protecting his family — by sinking all his energy into building an EMP-proof medieval castle in the woods of the Carolinas. Brent wants to impart his knowledge on his children, and help them develop their own survival skills to carry on his legacy — even after the end of days.

Hello Brent, I like what you and your family are doing.  I am a prepper, but getting the wife to get on board is like pulling my own teeth.  She believes things are going to change and are changing, but does not want to talk or do anything about it.  So I do what I think I have to in the back ground.

I do have a question about your castle; why did you make the windows so big?

Keep up the good preps!

Thanks,

John

Suggest that you also put on a metal roof on the castle, in case they throw bottles of gas on the roof or there is a forest fire

Looking at your window shutters and the drill you had to close them in less than a minute, I found a very time consuming effort on  your part that can be corrected easily.  Instead of having 2x4 wooden beams to secure the window shutters, have the wooden beam attached to the wall already on a swivel so it just falls into the shutter groves when prompted by the user.  I would suggest a dense wood for this or a steel bar, which would fall into place when the shutters are closed.  This can be done very quickly by one person, if the bar is attached beside the window shutters.  Just flip it over to the shutters and done.

i think what y'all should do is build a wall around the castle like 50 to 60 yard away from the castle you can use the trees that y'all have around the castle to build so you don't have to spend money it might take some time but its a lot safer than having nothing between you and the enemy that what i would do if i had that much land

If Brent Sr. has ten kids why are there only five of them helping out? Where are the other five kids? Are they going to come up after the castle is all built and do nothing? Sounds like something is screwed up? Get those other brats up there and help out!!!

sir, I think you might be a bit ambitious but my hats off to you for your idea. if you can get your kids all on track you may have something. to be honest I think every guy alive would like to have a castle in the woods to retreat to (I would).

Best of luck to you and your family. extra luck to brent 2 as I think he will need a huge amount to help pull it off. I like your chances with the rest of the kids though.

If he doesn't look at it that way, why did he quote just that, using his 4 years experience that make him an expert at what it takes to survive? And if you need to watch a show to learn about being a family, then I pity you. 1. This show is him making up after the fact of not spending enough time with his kids. 2. The media and our society have misconstrued what it means to be a family. So if I were you, I would stop thinking. I wasn't picking on his dream. I was picking at his so called qualifications.

I do not really believe the father really looks at himself as an expert in survival. However, he does appear to be a father that found a great way to spend time with his children and maybe even leave something behind when he goes. It is clearly established that the castle is his "Dream", so they are helping. It is very true that 4 years is not even close to enough experience to be Tactically sound in any way but if it gets the family a show that their family can do together. They should truly be envied for that reason alone. Anybosy could pick the show apart but instead maybe  families in the world we live in should perhaps learn about being a family. I think that have that aspect down pretty well.

4years in the army. An infantry instructor? Bull!! Not enough time in to instruct anything or enough to have to developed the skills to be a true tactician. Might wanna get someone with more experience.

@K. Hall Are you qualified to raise your kids and teach them if all hell break loose and you don't have the internet or tv or cell phones or electricity to cook on. Do you have any qualification to survive the way Brent Sr. and his family are doing? What are you going to leave your kids when you died? DEBT?

@K. Hall

Look at the mans age and when he went in? Don't be so quick to judge someone on what they tell you what they have or have not learn. Do you know everything? I bet you don't?

Qualified? I teach survival in the military. Debt? Nope. Brought up to believe you don't buy unless you got the cash for it. Sorry about my post. But I don't like the idea of people being misled thinking these are survival skills.

@K. Hall Dude you may teach survival in the military, and that's what you get paid for.  but, try teaching your family like Brent, it a whole different game.  I did not like how he did things in the beginning, but after some shows and the family jell-in together after some time of working together, he was right.  You have to wake family up to the fact that it isn't a game.  And feed the wake up calls of info to them in a timely fashion.

K Hall are you married?  If so, I bet teaching your "partner" survival is a full time job too!  Mine is!
