In 1992, 18-yr-old Lia McCord got an offer she couldn't refuse: Go to Bangladesh, pick up packages and get $20,000. But, the "packages" were heroin, and her "contact" was violent. After a botched hotel escape she was arrested at the airport with 7 lbs of heroin strapped to her body. She barely escaped the death penalty and was sentenced to 30 years. As a model prisoner, Congressman Bill Richardson noticed her and appealed to the president of Bangladesh. She was released in July of 1996.
