Extreme Heat Blasting Rays of Sunshine Tim Shaw takes us on a journey of extremes from volcanic 3,000 degree sunlight, to incredible transformations at under 300 degrees. His first demonstration, the Fresnel Lens, is an innovative design used by lighthouses to amplify the light it sends out, but it can also be used to concentrate light into an incredibly powerful beam. At a single focus point, the light's power is so great that it generates heat of over 3,000 degrees. Heart Stopping Heat Tim takes time out at a rooftop BBQ to find out if anything can stand up to the heart-stopping-heat of the Fresnel Lens. Tim Makes Bass From heat to beats, Tim takes us to the roadside to see the amazing outcome of using household products to put heavy bass through his car's sound system. Popping Cornstarch The key ingredients to this bass-popping experiment are cornstarch and water positioned as a pool sitting in the well of a speaker. Ice and Flamethrowers Next, Tim ventures to the fire-station where he challenges the fire professionals on their knowledge of ice and flamethrowers. 2,000 Degrees of Flaming Fury Tim is taking bets on just how long it will take to melt a large block of ice under a constant 2,000 degree flame. Melting Expectations To much of the firehouse staff's surprise, the results are quite unusual. Even after an hour of heavy flame exposure, the ice block hardly shows signs of distress despite a steady trickle of melted water. Clowning Around With Nitrogen A clown is witness to Tim's next experiment, but she also provides a vital component -- some party modeling balloons. Surprising Results The plan is to immerse an inflated balloon in a pan full of liquid nitrogen, a solution that reaches over 300 degrees below zero, and the results are astonishing. Gambling The Ranchero In an abandoned stockyard, Tim risks his beloved Ford Ranchero in an experiment which places his car 30 feet below 3 cement blocks jointly weighing in at 120 lbs. High Risk Betting Game When the blocks are released the question is — will the Ranchero survive or is Tim about to lose his prized-ride for good?
