Holding your breath while powerlifting can sometimes have a disgusting side-effect… vomit.
Please show us someone lifting a considerable (over 2X bodyweight) amount of weight while exhaling. The Valsalva maneuver is necessary for safe lifting and may include an exhale at the final part of a difficult lift. Lifting without holding your breathe leaves your lower back, abdomen and spine unsupported and can result in serious injury. The simplest answer to your observations is not having a full stomach when you do this. Skinny, weak people that have never lifted more than the pink dumbbells should probably not be giving power lifting advice.
