Marty has been guiding mountain expeditions and adventures for over 40 years across Alaska (literally from Ketchikan to Point Barrow) including well over a dozen expeditions on Mt. McKinley (all with a guitar on his back—yes, to the top).
Words of Wisdom:
"The turtle goes nowhere unless he sticks his neck out."
Hey Marty you go in the creek a lot, can you have Nat Geo put together a commercial of all your tumbles? LOL sorry Marty, I am really am a fan!!!
Welcome back Marty! We enjoy your wit and confidence. I hope you packed your guitar! Please give Sweeney a whack in the back of the head with it, he's so irritating! (you guys know you wish someone would!)
I have lived in the Upper Pennisula of Michigan since I was born and Alaska is a dream of mine. My soon to be husband wants to pack up and move to Alaska just for the experiances. We have lots of woods and nature but the moutains in alaska are so beautiful...at least for now I can sit back and watch the show.
From 7 year old Alex, in Madrid (where the show just aired): "the skis, the ropes and you are just really good at all the things you do. It is incredible how you climb. I am impressed. And I am impressed with what you do in Alaska." (The whole family is, thanks)
Hi Marty, back in Oklahoma and it was nice to see you and your family while I was there. Love you all and I really enjoyed my visit to Alaska. Joyce Hartzler
Excellent job ! Your positive attitude when tackling some of the roughest situations a man could endeavor was awe inspiring. Just goes to show, you can tackle the bull by the horns and keep smiling.
Marty, I love the fact that you know your way around, in the wild and the wisdom you share, but I especially love your jokes and your laugh. This is my number 1 show. You are all my kind of people.
Marty is the man! I came to Alaska to visit family and my uncle got me hooked on the show. I have my DVR set so I don't miss a episode. I found out that my uncle actually is a friend of Marty's. I hope on my next trip that I am able to meet Marty. I wish Marty and the Mountaineers luck in winning the challenge. BEST OF LUCK, from your fan from VIRGINIA!
I first began watching this show because I love Alaska! At first, I thought Marty was a loose cannon. Now I find that he is actually very knowledgeable, he's grown on me, and I find I can't wait to see the next episode just to watch Marty. This country girl's got a a big time crush going on! Is he married?
marty i am very dissapointed in you guys the least you could have done is to offer the military guys some of your grub after they saved tylers bacon
@Bill Dixon I dont think you were actually watching the show.. The mountaineers shared their bear barrel at the end.. wow how unobservant of you and quick to jump with such haste and combative gumption, which does nothing for you but shows to observant ones like I close minded prejudices....I
Marty, you are such an inspiration to the order men like myself. I do miss the interaction with you and your son on this season. Keep up the good work. You are such a inspiration.

IIiI seen the show the first time yesterday. Watched the entire season today. Was fortunate enough to have been in Alaska in August. I fell in love with the place and I can not get enough of this show or Marty Raney. Where were you when I was there???? LOL
I watched the show for the first time yesterday. Thanks for your kind words for the people of Rampart. I thought it was so nice to hear see positive scenes on tv for native people in Alaska.
