Pin Wheel Crew
From left to right: First Mate Adam Moser, Captain Tyler McLaughlin, and First Mate Alex Whitney
Meet the new kids on the harbor this season—a three-man crew from New Hampshire led by a 24-year-old captain named Tyler. Tyler's privileged background (he attended prep school where he met his first mate Alex) has afforded him his own boat at a young age. But he's no googan. This kid can fish. -
Tyler McLaughlin, Captain
Tyler hails from New Hampshire but this season he’s bringing his boat and his crew to fish for bluefin in the waters of Gloucester, MA. At 24 years old, Tyler is the youngest captain in the fleet. Despite his youth, he's earned the reputation of being one of the best tuna fishermen on the east coast.
-
Tyler Mc-Laughin'
Tyler is confident, competent, and outspoken. He loves to push the other captains' buttons, especially when he's got a fish on deck to brag about. For a young captain, Tyler works his team hard. His obsession with working round-the-clock to catch bluefin can sometimes put him at odds with his more relaxed and fun-loving first mates.
-
Alex Whitney, First Mate
Alex and Tyler became friends in prep school. For years, Alex's passion was fly-fishing, but he turned his attention to bluefin tuna two years ago when he started working full-time for Tyler on the Pin Wheel.
-
Alex in Action
First Mate Alex hustles to reel in a monster on the rocky seas. For Alex, fishing for tuna is as much about having fun as it is about earning a paycheck. He's the joker of the group.
-
Adam Moser, First Mate
First Mates Adam (on the left) and Alex have been best friends since sixth grade. Adam is new to fishing and has worked on the Pin Wheel crew for only a few months. Adam is often the voice of reason on the boat and won't hesitate to call out the captain if Tyler "frenzies out" (Tyler's term for losing his temper).
-
Rockin' and Reelin'
The Pin Wheel crew—Adam, Alex and Tyler—bring everything they've got to the deck in an epic battle with the sea.
"Nice color-good fat-good grease", "beatiful peice", "all around nice"---> 16, 14, 18 dollars per pound -tyler
"This is rubber, not even a seagull will touch this" ---> 8 dollars per pound -dave...
Sound a little bit inconsistent and off
First time I have been here, but it seems all anyone does here is fight and whine ?
Does anyone know what size the Pinwheel is ??? can't seem to find it like it is some big secret...
Im from Portsmouth NH, the town NEXT to Rye where Tyler is from... yes, he had money handed to him - all you people here bustin on them are just JEALOUS that YOUR DADDY's didn't help you out... Tell me this - if your father worked his ass off and had money, which one of you would say NO if he offered to buy you a boat to start a career...??? NOT ONE OF YOU WOULD PASS IT UP! And if you say you would, you're a LIAR!!! And by the way- around HERE, to the people who know of him, we KNOW that he is one of the best Tuna fishermen on the East Coast... he caught the biggest one around here a couple of years back... over 1,000 lbs!!! SO you haters just need to put your JEALOUSY on the back burner and enjoy the show... And if you hate it so much, pick up your remote control and change the channel!!!
H ey Tyler, like this knight guy wants you to put a tuna hook in his ass so he can close his mouth
Hey Tyler, you claim to be this big expert fisherman so can I ask you why you are always stuck up the tuna.coms rear end? Is it because you cannot find your own fish or is it because your just an asshole. Why don't you go somewhere else and find your own fish or better yet why don't you just find a different job cuz you can't hack it you little punk. You just plain SUCK!!!!!
The old man Tyler sells is fish to is giving him a raw deal. I do not think he is giving Tyler the market price. Tyler, you need to use the man Tuna.com uses.
why not, they follow him around and steal his numbers so why not his market contact as well, lol
All these stupid comments on here about Daddy's boys is on my nerves. I love these guys on the Pinwheel. They are my fave! who care who funds the trips... Tyler is out there at the crack ass of dawn trying to catch fish. Keep up the awesome fishing and entertaining us with all you guy's' laughing and teamwork. Rootin for ya! :D
i dont have a problem with them having money, thats their good luck.
When they arent dissing tuna.com and the other local fisho's and are concentrating on getting fish, its good tv. Their hunger and passion is refreshing and has you glued to what they are upto
I just wish they would show a little respect and tone the cockiness down a bit.
Being a bit cheeky and joking around is fine, like when they first made an intro and pulled alongside dave.
But you have to know where to draw the line.
Later in that episode he lets himself down when the excitement of catching one results in a tirade of rubbish and disrespect over the radio.
I dont think he made any freinds that day.
You know, it costs nothing to be polite, or at least not be disrespectful.
Look at dave marciano? he's a class act, gentlemen and a real sportsman
@Beth Harshman Well beth, it matters to a lot of hard working men who did not have everything handed to them. Its called the Entitlement generation. They have no appreciation that it took a lot of HARD WORK for these MEN to get where they are. and up pops SCOOTER with daddys $$$$ just so he can say he was a tuna fisher on TV. Hell, in 2 years he will be doing something else on POP`S money, or if daddy & mommy care enuff ,send him to college and use that little peabrain. And I thought it was great when Captain Ralph knocked him on his ass. the punk deserved it.... you and tyler probably voted Obama also...
First of all I am NOT in the generation of the "entitled". I am 46 years old with a family and a grandchild and have worked for everything I have. I did not vote for Obama and I have no idea what on Earth the president has to do with a TV show either. And PS "Pops" DID send him to college. Do your research before you get all bent out of shape. He could be sitting on his butt being entitled but he is working so more power to him...and if he WASN'T a good fisherman why would Nat Geo approach him to be on their FISHING show? Calm down and enjoy the show.
I don't know about you guys but, I'm gonna start laughing like Tyler! lol every time he gets a hook up he can't stop laughing! so cute! I love you Tyler, your my cutie pie!
on the flipside i was actually scared of the look in his eyes when he lost one.
Crikey if looks could kill, lol.
He looked like a stalker or sycho.
But yeah it would definitely be cool to fish with him
Hey Tyler , I am from the caribbean and i watch the show, man i love the pin wheel crew and which i had an opportunity to be part of the Pin Wheel Crew. I love the passion u have for fishing and hope you finish the season on top , show those guys experience don't always come with age.
i love Pin Wheel!!! yall are my favorite crew! Tyler you are a cutie pie! just sayin you need to hmu! lol and ur crew is sexy too! lol but not only that but yall are the best fishermen too! if you ever have spare time and are lonely ill be more than willing to go chill with you on your boat! ;) i llove fishing imy bigest fish i ever caught though is a Gar Fish lolbut anyways, i hope you beat Daves a** too! i hate him, well i very much dislike him! haha but anyways i hope you win, i know you'll win, your the best, and your my cutie patootie!! look me up on Face book if you read this Tyler cause i can assure you im your #1 fan!! :*
I have a question. When did making honest observations become "hate". Is it "hate" to say something that is true about someone that they do not like? The "younger" generation here seems to be the "haters" when they criticize "old people" for the experience they have in life.
Reallyinteresting reading the comparisons about age and maturity. I submit thetwo have very little to do with either. 33 years as a firefighter I’veseen the very mature 18 year old and the very immature 35 year old.
It allmay be an act but the young person Tyler has much to learn about what it takesto be mature and apparently has more to learn about earning respect.
Actionsspeak much louder than words and if he’s such a good fisherman he needs to keepcatching the big ones and allow that to speak for him. Running his mouthonly diminishes his accomplishments.
Don’tknow anything about how he was raised, but respecting elders is also animportant part of growing up and “maturing”.
hey you guys are the ones who catch fish, i love the show alot you guys get paid alot of money.
LOLz - yet another episode where reality hits Tyler in the face. His two "first" mates prove they have the WRONG ATTITUDE about their jobs. No apology for being late. No apology for completely not appearing. Tyler needs to read the story of "The Little Red Hen". His "mates" want the payday. They do not want to EARN it. What crew refuses to do the "dock work" and gets to keep their job???
I like all the pin wheel haters on here. Besides Amanda the rest of you need to come to the 21st century. If you are a parent and can't give your kid a good life then get off the well fare and get to work. Tyler might have a easier background then most but it's up to him to fish everyday he can and put fish in the boat. He could be out the in a dingy catching more fish then then the rest of the senior citizens. Do work Tyler your representing for the youth don't let up
@Clint LarsonIf the young fishermen are so good why does Tyler have to go fishing ALONE. He was acting the clown hiring clowns. Reality has hit him hard in the face.
Hey Tyler, you need to hire men. Unfortunately Amanda, Tyler's two "First Mates" have shown and told what they're made of. Like the children Tyler hired said: "there's other things in life besides tuna fishing". With all of their combined worldly experience why should they be expected to show up on time for work. As a matter of fact, why should they show up for work at all when they don't feel like it ? Three hours late one day and then no show, and no phone calls ? They obviously deeply respect you Tyler. CAN THEM NOW ! Adam and Alex, go back to Phillips Exeter or Phillips Andover Academy or whatever prep school you went to. I'm sure Daddy can get you a job there teaching physical education.
Just going to throw this out there... I'm a 21 year old girl that watches this show... I love it because of the pinwheel crew! Way to go boys! Show 'em what this generation is made of! <3
@Amanda Kirchner You mean the crew that has "better things to do" than show up for work. Work that lasts only a few weeks every year. The tuna season lasts 10 weeks. Make your money for a year then. You can do the "better things" for the other 42 weeks.
@John Hillman I think you need to relax.... The crew is right, there are other things in life other than tuna fishing. None of us know them personally so it's not like we can accurately judge their character. Maybe they had something else going on that missing ONE DAY didn't seem like that big of a deal. Remember... IT IS A TV SHOW... Who knows how much of this is real and how much is fabricated to add drama. Besides... if you REALLY don't like this crew that much how about you go to a different page and being positive and encouraging the crews you do like. You are sure putting a lot of effort to fight against everything anyone says on here...
What up Amanda . I just figured I would give you a shout out since we are the only people born after 1960 on this page.they are all haters they don't know what our generation is about. Let's keep the support up for captain tyler and the pin wheel
@Clint Larson @Amanda Kirchner
Well I'm 46 and I happen to love the Pinwheel guys. They are for sure my faves! ;)
@Clint Larson @Amanda Kirchner Why support the "crew" that shows up late or never shows without notice? Tyler does work hard. The crew is a bunch of clowns.
must be nice for you when your daddy buys you a fishing boat so you can THINK and ACT like you know all there is to
know about commerical fishing.Your DADDY has a good lawsiut against that perp-school you went to,because they sure
as hell didnt teach you about REAL LIFE!!
@arthur jones what's a perp school? just because you werent able to have the same oppurtunities as him doesn't mean you should hate
definatly just a few rich kids thinking they can out fish the rest... they dont realize the others didnt have their daddy give them a boat and everything they needed to start working....kids today, like them have no idea what its like to actually have to work for what you really want!!! whos going to pay when their boat needs repairs or they need more equiptment the kids?? hell no they will just cry help me to daddy and it will be handed to them...ya what a great way to teach kids anything these days!
@P K From the Boston Globe:
McLaughlin says the postings don’t really bother him. But, he adds, “Say what you want. Do you really know me? Just because I’m on TV doesn’t mean you know me.”
In fact, McLaughlin said he’s worked hard for what he’s got. “I fished my way through college. I paid a lot of my college off by fishing for tuna.”
McLaughlin earned a degree in business management at Nichols College in 2011, but said there weren’t a lot of good jobs when he graduated. So, he took out a loan, bought a boat, and went back to what he loved best: tuna fishing.
“I was good at tuna fishing,” said McLaughlin. “I’ve done it all my life.”
McLaughlin started fishing with his dad when he was a kid, and caught his first bluefin tuna at the age of 7.
“I was a skinny kid fishing on a tuna boat when I was younger, but I could reel in tuna faster than anyone.”
And he’s still going strong.
“I like the challenge,” he said. “Tuna are the hardest fish to catch. There’s not a smarter, badder, or harder-fighting fish.”
Get out here kids these days know how to work a hundred times harder then any generation. We are making more money then any previous generation we are driving nicer cars then any previous generation we are buying nicer house then previous generations. And pretty sure I get paid more then people older then me cause I put the work in. So stop crying poor me poor me and do something about it
omg are you serious?
You think the amount you make is an indication of how hard you work?
Now thats funny
@Clint Larson @P K Know how to work? How can you "work" if you are a no-call no-show when the tuna are biting?
Just saw the episode with the waterballoon attack (of course anyone who is hit by water balloons while they areworking should realize it is just in fun and "feel" they way you doabout it, after all, everyone in the world thinks just like you, none of us aredifferent) anyway, then you went down to the boat and antagonized the same manyou hit with water balloons (by the way, I don't know what Randy Brown said wasreal or a joke, but in any state or county in this country hitting someone witha water balloon is assault, no joke, so Randy Brown, regardless of yourpersonal feelings, you should do a little investigation before you make anignorant phone call) and then finally after assaulting this captain and thenverbally antagonizing him, you are surprised you get pushed, he was defendinghimself after already being assaulted by you by the way, then on the air to thecamera you state that this captain who you have flagrantly gone after causethis incident! Just to let you know what normal Americans think of youractions and attitudes and behavior, you are what's wrong with America. What a Dick......And your friend "I've got your back" you picksome fantastic friends. Regardless of Odyssey's captains' normalbehavior, you just proved your no better, but worse than him.
Pretty sure people like you are what's wrong with America. A water ballon assault. What the hell has America came to where we want to sue over a water ballon. This country is getting worse and worse people like you can't defend themselves so they have to get other people to do it for them now who sounds like the rich spoiled brat you do! Tyler is a big boy he can handle himself if he gets a beating he gets a beating everyone gets a beating time to time that's part of being a man
@Clint Larson @J G. I agree, what has America become when assaulting someone is expected to be laughed off. It is against the law to throw any object at a moving vehicle in almost every jurisdiction. Look in your motor vehicle handbook. It has been a CRIME for over 50 years.
Hahahaha he got pushed and then needs to file a complaint and gets a hardworking fellow banned..
Well that shows how childish he is!
