Usually the competition is between the boats and with the bluefin itself, but in this instance Captain Ralph was referring to the birds. Sometimes they throw 10 fish into the water and only one makes it in because the birds snatch up the bait before it even reaches the water.

Just because you hook one, doesn't mean it's a done deal. The guys have even been slapped in the face with a fin as they attempted to pull the fish aboard the boat, and it's gotten away at the last possible second as a result, so the fishermen have learned to not get ahead of themselves.

Dave Marciano is "The Man" in this regard as well . . . a real good guy ( + true family man) . . . and he has a great sense of humor (even when things aren't going so well . . .); I love it when he makes fun of "Sneaky Dave" from the 'Tuna.Com' . . . if ANYONE richly deserves it, it's "Sneaky Dave" . . .

Where do u go to try to win a fishing trip with Marciano please help me I want to put in for a chance to fish with theses guys there straight down to earth fisherman and they seem like the type of people I could have a blast with, So I ask again where do I go or have to do to sighn up
I was raised to be respectful by my Dad.So all do respect Tyler young man I know it may be for the show but I believe you could show just do respect to the fisherman that have def earned it,plus if the crap hits the fan out there and anyone who has been on the ocean knows it .Those may be the only ones that are there to save you . Have a great and safe season guys.
Captain Bill, haven't you been fishing long enough to not need other captains to tell you where the tunas are and blaming them for your misforture isn't the grown up thing to do. man up and get back to the basic.
Captain Marciano, I know i have said this before and sure i will again. you and jay are my favorite on the show mainly because you guys do what you have to and don't worry about who catching what or who's caught the most or biggest tuna. I'm sure alot of the bull has to do with the show and glad to see you don't thrive on it. I hope you guys have a great season, stay safe and catch one for me. Donald Buffkin
