Wild Justice: Poaching Pictures
Wild Justice seems to be an approprate title for this show because we become "justice stupid" when we send out paramilitary game wardens with an agenda to arrest every drunken hillbilly with a gun for what God himself has stamped into their DNA ( the urge to hunt animals).
There was a time when game wardens were nice, quiet, decent people that didn't have to where gun holsters or bullet proof vests. They came armed with citation booklets, and that's what they did, they wrote citations for minor infractions of the law. They certainly didn't go way out of their way to surf Craigslist for people who wanted to buy a trophy bearskin rug. Did they just assume that this fellow knew the law? After all, he wasn't the one who killed it - he wasn't the hunter. Oh.... wait a minute.... that was the game warden that was trying to sell the bear - he should have known the law. It sounds like this felon wasn't anywhere near as knowledgeable or predisposed to this crime as they thought. This game warden went to great lengths to set someone up (to the point of becoming an accomplice) and this should have been considered entrapment.
We, as a society, don't need a "War on Poaching". We add several wars every day to the list of costly and deadly wars we are already fighting. We need to be careful how these stings are conducted and who we deputize and give police powers to lest we become Justice Stupid as the people who slaughter these animals into extinction
