George Crawford has been serving a life sentence for murder since he entered Angola at age 22. On George's first day in Angola, he met filmmaker Jonathan Stack. "I ain't no perfect child. I done did dirt, as I was coming up. I have sold drugs, I have stole things, I have lied, I have cheated. But I have never killed anyone. I ain't perfect. That's what I want to get across. I ain't perfect."
"When I first arrived I was dead grass, I wasn't growing at all. But now I've grown, I've grown a lot. You know, I feel I'm a better person."
In response to the film sufficient funds were donated for George to file an appeal. He has consistently maintained his innocence. His mother continues to visit him on a regular basis. "I want to say, to me it don't move. Time don't move for me."
"Wasn't no people person when I first came, you know I was selfish, stubborn. When I first arrived I was dead grass, I wasn't growing at all. But now I've grown, I've grown a lot. You know, I feel I'm a better person. You know, I can hope I can make a difference."
