Living in a fundamentalist Mormon community, young men and women don't have many opportunities to socialize. An exception is the town's New Year's Eve celebration. Arthur puts his boys to work decorating the hall. When the work is done, the boys put on their best for the single women. The oldest Cawley daughter, Rose Marie, is nervous to attend. She's hoping to receive her inspiration from God about whom she should marry, and the ball provides an opportunityif she can get over her shyness.
