Kratt Brothers Bios
Martin Kratt is a graduate of Duke University, with a Bachelor of Science in Zoology. He was awarded a Jenrette Fellowship to the University of North Carolina/Chapel Hill MBA program.
Chris Kratt holds
a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Carleton College and is a Richter
Fellow and Watson Fellow.
Chris and Martin have executive produced,
written, filmed, and co-starred in two acclaimed series airing on
PBS: the Parents Gold Choice Award-winning Kratts Creatures
and the Emmy® Award-winning Zoboomafoo. Favorites of young audiences,
critics, and adults alike, these series won a multitude of prestigious
environmental filmmaking awards, including a total of eight prizes
at the 1996 and 1997 International Wildlife Film Festival and the
1998 National Wildlife Federations National Conservation Achievement
Award in Communications.
The Kratt brothers shows have influenced an entire generation
of young families to care about the Earth and the creatures that
share it with us. In addition to producing their wildly popular
series, the Kratts also are book authors, and the creators and stars
of three national tours that have been experienced by hundreds of
thousands of children and their families, encouraging them to understand
the natural behaviors of our living planet.
In 1998, former US Secretary of the Interior Bruce Babbitt recognized
the unique contribution Chris and Martin have made to science and
educational programming by appointing the Kratt brothers as spokespeople
for Frog Force, a team of Americas top scientists assembled
to study and counter the declining amphibian situation.
The Kratt brothers have helped empower children throughout North
America to make the world a better place for the wild animals they
love through their not-for-profit Kratt Brothers Creature Hero Society
(KBCH). KBCHs first project mobilized kids across North America
to help save a parcel of land crucial to the survival of the endangered
grizzly bear. This resulted in the creation of a bear refuge known
as Grizzly Gulch.
