Cookie Wrapper Wallet
Here’s an easy project packed with sweet recycling flavor! Grab a cookie wrapper, a pair of scissors, and get going on your wallet.
Materials:
- clean, empty food wrapper (at least 8” x 6.5” in size)
- iron
- copy paper
- tape
- scissors
- non-permanent marker
- hook and loop fastener
- template
Note: make sure you are working in a well-ventilated area
Instructions:
1. First we’re going to fuse the food wrapper with an iron so the front and back of the wrapper sticks together. Place the wrapper between 2 sheets of copy paper.
Note: you can skip steps 1 and 2 and use a single layer of wrapper. However, using an iron to fuse 2 layers together makes for a much sturdier wallet.
2. Set your iron to the polyester / rayon setting (the middle setting on most irons). Iron the wrapper between the paper. Be sure to continually check on the wrapper to ensure that it is fusing together. Note: All wrappers fuse at different temperatures, so experiment to see what works best for yours.
3. Print out the template. Cut around the edges of the template.
4. Trace onto the wrapper with the non-permanent marker. Cut around the lines you drew.
5. Fold at the notches. Tape the bottom folds in place.
6. Attach the hook and loop fastener to the top of the wallet, then bring down so the other side attaches to the bottom. Fill your wallet with all sorts of goodies and enjoy your newly recycled treat!
