Alaska covers more square miles than Texas, California, and Colorado put together. In fact, there is a glacier in Alaska so huge that it would nearly cover the entire state of Rhode Island.
Denali National Park alone covers over two million acres of primordial wilderness, an expanse larger than the state of Massachusetts.
Extreme Elevation
Alaska hosts North America's highest peak and one of the coldest mountains on the globe, Denali, also known as Mount McKinley. It continues to grow at a rate of uplift of about 0.04 inches per year.
During the park's busiest five month season, over 400,000 tourists flock to see this famous mountain.
Extreme Landscape
An estimated 100,000 glaciers cover five percent of Alaska, carving out the landscape into spires, valleys, and fjords.
There are more than 40 active volcanoes in Alaska and as many as 4,000 earthquakes of various depths are recorded in Alaska every year.
