In 1993, Brendan Cosso and three friends were living the good life, partying and mixing with Hollywood celebrities. When the offer came to smuggle cocaine out of Brazil for $50,000, he took it. Brendan and his friends were arrested at Sao Paulo Airport. Thanks to the efforts of his father in securing a top criminal lawyer, they received a sentence of four and a half years rather than the 25 originally demanded by the prosecution. They were sent to the notorious Carandiru prison, where a year previously 111 prisoners had been massacred during a riot.
