- Labradors are known to be great family dogs because they are good with kids and easy to train. In fact, the Labrador has been the most popular breed in the UK and the US for over ten years.
- It’s thought that black dogs may spend more time in shelters than dogs of any other color. Shelters think that adopters overlook black dogs because they feel that the black dogs look more aggressive or dangerous.
- Labrador retrievers are part of the sporting group of dogs. They love to swim and retrieve.
- Labrador retrievers come in three colors: black, yellow and brown. Lab mixes might have other markings such as white spots on chest or ears.
- US households spend an average of about $43 per year on dog toys.
- The oldest dogs on record have lived to nearly 30 years old.
- Labrador retrievers are originally from the province of Newfoundland and Labrador in Canada. The breed was initially used to help fisherman and its members are affectionately called “Labs.”
- Designer dogs have become very popular and the Labrador has recently been cross-bred with a poodle. The result is called a “Labradoodle”.
- Most adult Dogs have 42 teeth. Puppies have an average of 28 baby teeth.
- Dogs are born with their eyes and ears closed.
