Cesar Millan: Love My Pit Bull
Wow, i am new to the site but i am not new to National Geographic or Cesar Milan. It makes me so mad that humans can love one person, place or animal to no end for a period of time and turn around and ostracize them the next period of time! It seems as if the non-owners of AmStaffs, APBT, American Bullies, etc. have the most to say about the animals! Yet, these are the same people who never volunteer to help their fellow HUMAN BEINGS because they look down upon them. They jump right onto the 'terrorist bandwagon' our media loves to spew out over the airwaves without first getting their facts straight.
The politicians involved really don't care one way or the other, whatever makes their constituents happy is how they make up dumb laws like the Breed Restriction Laws. They should have laws that not only identify bad pet owners but also ENFORCE those laws so that these poor 'babies' don't fall into the wrong hands and suffer later. Sure, the breeds are powerful and that is what makes them so beautiful, they are powerful and yet, under the right conditions they use that power to HELP their loved ones. I know many people who have been bitten by Pomeranians and other small dogs that needed stitches but where is the outcry there!
The problem that humans seem to forget is that ANYTHING WITH TEETH HAS THE POTENTIAL TO BITE, INCLUDING OTHER HUMANS!
More focus should be placed on the pharmaceutical companies, the ever-growing national deficit, local as well as national crime, GMOs and other RELEVANT issues that affect us deeper than any bite from a 'pit bull.' Love them and they will love us back....treat them bad or train them to kill like we did our soldiers and they will go out and kill...simple as that.
I am sitting here in tears watching this show. Thank god for Cesar Millan and his knowledge of dogs in general and giving a voice to Pit Bulls specifically. I am afraid that people will think that only he or someone like him can be a pit bull owner. I do hope that the tide is turning in the media and the public through the knowledge that Cesar and others like him are sharing. Thank you Cesar!!! I wish I could work with you and learn what you know.
I am so happy that someone with a big voice is speaking out for the Pitbulls. I have always had Pitbulls and Staffords and they are the sweetest dogs of life. I live in Homestead Florida, they are banned in Dade County where I live. I would like to do something in my city for them.
Power to the pitties.
I grew up with all sorts of dogs, and I've never felt the compassion from them as I did from my adopted pitty..we fell in love..and thanks to the Dog Whisperer, I was able to control wild habits within her so we could walk off leash.
I had to leave her along with my ex girlfriend.. never cried so much.
I love you Cesar Millan!
It would be pretty logical when thought out that the only reason why Cesar said, "pit bulls need to be trained to get along" and didn't mention other breeds, would be due to the fact it was a segment dedicated to the pit bull breed. Sheesh, whatz tha matta with ya? We are not born loving and trusting, those are things we begin to learn when parents love, cuddle, and show affection to us and that creates trust. Were those comments coming from being impulsive or ignorance?
Ave you are sooooo ignorant! Clearly you are not a pitbull owner because obviously you wouldn't qualify anyways. It takes a lot to be a pitbull parent, we are just special and educated!!! Dont assume things and don't put words in Cesar's mouth. Don't bully our breed!!!!
Thanks Cesar for all your help and tips, thanks to your show humans are more educated about dogs. Lets keep fighting for this beautiful breed.
After watching Cesar's show and learned about Falco K9 Academy, we contact them if they could evaluate our dog. We had the impression this facility was one the best in our area. So, we called and got an appt. We even confirmed the appt. a few days back. The day finally came and we got to the park 10 mins early. Spoke to the Rep and told us in 4 words where to meet and call got disconnected. Got to the meeting spot, no guy. Called numerous more times, no answer. After 30 mins of waiting and asking people around (people who knew the guy and have not seen him that time), we left. SO DISAPPOINTED! VERY UNPROFESSIONAL! Wondering why Cesar would have you guys in the show...
I'm so glad he is helping the pit bull. They are an amazing breed. I also commend Tia and the show Pit Bulls and paroles. Look at that beautiful smile Junior has!
Pitbulls are amazing. ALL dog breeds have dogs that do and don't need to be trained to get along. Pitbulls are the best breed around. They love kids and dogs. You have twisted his words Eve.
I found it disturbing that Cesar Millan says "humans as well as pit bulls need to be trained to get along." I don't feel most humans need to be trained to get along. We are born loving and trusting. It was also interesting that he feels pit bulls need to be trained to get along. Usually advocates claim pit bulls are trained to be vicious and aggressive, rather than being trained to be cooperative and non-combative. And also take note, he didn't say dogs in general need to be trained to get along, just pit bulls. So you see, Cesar Millan does acknowledge that pit bulls are born with natural aggression towards other dogs and it must be trained out of them.
Excellent program. It's important for humans to know the history of the treatment of Pit Bulls. Perhaps attitudes and laws will change. Please don't overlook the outstanding work that Tia Maria Torres does and her program Pit Bulls and Paroles. The message from both your programs is the same: the dog is a loving, forgiving creature regardless of what humans have done.
Thank you for giving our Pit bulls a voice. If we humans can find the strength courage and perseverance our Pit bulls give us each and every day, we will be able to restore these amazing breeds to their rightful place of love and respect in the hearts and minds of friends and communities.
CORRECTION: Federal ADA Service Dog laws supersede BSL. I believe Cesar's statement that the woman with the service dog was not allowed to keep her's is incorrect. PLEASE review this and add information at the end of future airings. Thank you.
Pit Bull Service Dog Certification
Under the American's With Disabilities Act ( ADA ) and other various laws world wide used to protect individuals with disabilities, discrimination against an individual's Service Dog breed of choice is illegal. To learn more of the specifics of the American's With Disabilities Act ( ADA ) and how it pertains to Service Dog use click here. In the USA it is important to understand the federal implication of this as it can be used as a defense to keeping one's Pit Bull if you are located in a region that has Breed Specific Legislation ( BSL ) that may otherwise limit or deny Pit Bull ownership.
I am a big believer in pit bulls amazing abilities when it comes to search and rescue. We have a great pit bull in rescue at the moment who would be perfect for this job, however all organizations we contacted said he cant be a search and rescue dog due to his breed.
I really enjoyed the show. I can't believe what people will do to these innocent animals. I'm so thankful for Cesar to promote the breed and increase positive awareness and educate people.
Really Enjoyed being on the show and Thank You to Cesar and Crew for presenting the APBT in the positive light this great breed deserves!
When will the be shown on the regular National Geographic Channel? A lot of people don't get Nat Geo Wild. I REALLY want to watch!
We had a great time working with Cesar and his crew. I am looking forward to seeing how the show turned out.
What should a person do if a large and/or dangerous dog is loose and is about to attack them and there is no available refuge?
I am from canada too, but my Tv provider does not have National Geo Wild. I love pit bulls and would love to watch the show but I do not know how, is there any other way to watch it?
HI please can someone tell me when Cesar's "I love my pit bull" show will be shown is South Africa?
Just saw the ad for the new show. Very much looking forward to it. We have a Pit mix that is the smartest dog I have ever had. He is loyal and respectful and we saved each other. We also have four Blue Pits, a Mama and her three pups. They are a joy. We didn't miss an episode of the Dog Whisperer and I personally feel that Cesar is doing a wonderful thing by standing by the breed. Good luck with show and the pursuit.
Sorry for the late response to your ignorant comment...i just signed up. I respect your opinion and i hope that you respect mine when i tell you that you will probably die faster due to you politicians drugging you up and depleting your finances.
@ed bee I hope what you mean are poisonous cultural practices like breed-banning and people who just can't feel beyond stereotypes. If that's what you mean then I agree!!
@ed bee Conceded ignoramuses like you? Indeed.
Again, sorry for the late response but i just joined the community. You are wrong in your statement about humans being born to love and trust. On the contrary, we are all born with characteristics that are truly unknown to humans. We are TAUGHT WHAT TO SMILE AT, WHAT TO LAUGH AT AND WHAT IS SAD, etc. What babies do cannot be explained matter-of-factly by any human despite their training. We speculate and hypothesize things to give them a meaning that humans can understand.
The same thing goes for animals, we only speculate based on behavior. They know why they do things and when to do them. Cesar dedicates his time to get at least the basic understanding of dogs so that he can BASE HIS OPINIONS ON HIS OBSERVATIONS! The sad thing is that animals don't know the Constitution and humans do and yet some still choose to rape, murder, steal, deprive, manipulate, etc. others. So please tell me which would you rather be in the company of....an animal who will use their natural instincts, an animal who has been loved and cared for or a human who wears a suit, has a degree, a badge, political affiliation and is a serial killer in their spare time?
@ Alexander: How long have you trained dogs? Cesar didn't acknowledge anything that would be close to training aggression out of pit bulls. People who have that breed or any other need to be trained to make sure that their dogs get what they need. People need to know how to treat dogs in general to get along. If you don't know that petting a pit bull on top of the head can be seen as aggression from the dog's perspective, you wouldn't know that after the dog has started the greeting first, because humans aren't supposed to initiate the greeting with their eyes or voice (human training), after introducing your hand fisted with the palm up (human training), with permission from the owner you'd pet the dog on it's shoulders.
His point behind training people & pit bulls, or any dog really, to get along is more about understanding that dogs have a very different perspective of the world than people do. They take information in differently than we do. If you don't know how they see the world you can't communicate & give the dog the energy it consistently needs.
Sorry to burst your bubble, but humans do need to be trained to get along with any dog. He may have been speaking about the pit bull breed at the time, but they aren't innately violent. They are a product of their environment. Just like people, if they're understood & treated right, every different environment will be fine with consistency. Environment can change a dog too, just like people. At home my dogs are pets & they bark at a new person, but I orchestrate/guide their behavior in public & they don't bark.
Post on an expert when you are one. Not all humans are like you say. Another mother of a child with special needs stole both my son's kindle & phone when he's got different medical & other special considerations. This other mother had a phone & knew what my son used the kindle for that is specific to his needs. Tell me more about humans. I have a BA in criminal justice.
From Eve Alexander:
"Since the pit bull owning community has been unable to stop the flow of breeding, unable to educate themselves, unable to contain their dogs, and unable to live cooperatively in a safe dog society, our only recourse is to legislate pit bull owners." February 26, 2013 at 11:40am
This person is nothing but a vile, ignorant, bigoted pit-bull hating troll that spews hateful sewage everywhere she slithers. Educated persons know that if ANY species were all born "loving and trusting", that species would have ceased to exist LONG AGO. It is a simple, familiar concept called SURVIVAL INSTINCT that we all learned about in elementary school. If a horse is born in the wild and a human catches it, is it just naturally trusting of humans? Of course not and to think that even remotely plausible for ANY species is moronic. Why do horses have to be "broken" Eve? Humans have to learn how to effectively communicate with dogs and dogs have to learn how to integrate into human's world as well to coexist in a way that both can enjoy. You live in a pathetic world filled with hate and spend an enormous amount of energy demonizing and villifying innocent dogs and their loving, responsible owners. You hate group culties make the world a darker, sicker place -- and you cannot stand it when you see MILLIONS of pit bulls bringing smiles and joy to MILLIONS of people around the world.
@Eve Alexander Human beings do many evil things, murder, rape, etc. Not all humans do those things, but some of them, yes. Unfortunately, I don't think "training" will ever eradicate such actions.
Also,I believe that was a paraphrase of what Cesar said, not a quote. He clearly thinks all dogs need to be properly trained/handled, no matter what the breed.
@ KRIS B: ADA is a federal law. Once an animal, even a pit bull, is certified as a service animal they are covered under ADA because they are certified by a professional trainer.
Way to go Andy! Great show. When will you and/or Cesar take on "Gage" ? He could have some pit bull in him. ?
@Jenn Harrison ... unsure if you get NatGeo --- simply sharing b/c just saw this:Next Airing: WED APR 23 9PM PT
@Sandra Browning Allow the dog to bite something so you control its head/jaws which are its only weapons. Good idea is taking a jacket/shirt and wrapping it around your arm, and letting the dog have it. Then proceed to take it down and start breaking legs, crush its windpipe, gouging eyes, etc. Don't show fear, and show you have more fight in you and you're a lot more violent than the dog. Its a pack animal and will back down if it knows you're its superior.
You spread out your arms to look bigger. Don't look the dog in the eye, but know that it's there & where it is. Don't turn around to get away from the dog! Keep your arms out & back away. Be calm & assertive! You are not engaging the dog. You keep a calm controlled tone of voice. Once you can see the dog has no more interest you can turn around, but not before. If you have a dog in your area that's a problem, you should report every incident with any dog.
@Sandra Browning If you have something in your hand, for instance a stick, you can keep it in between you and the dog so that he will only be able to bite the stick, not you. I carry a large bag that I can use for the same purpose. In some shows, Cesar has held a tennis racket, keeping it in between him and an aggressive dog.
