Wild Side of Cats
I received my first cat as a sixth birthday present. We had the same birthday but I had to wait six weeks for her to come to me. I named her Mumpsey after a book I had read, Mumpsey Goes To Kindergarten. I was in kindergarten. Since Mumpsey I have almost always had a cat except for college years. Right now I have only one; he is very ill and will not live much longer as his kidneys are failing. I also have a dog who is NOT loved by the cat although the dog thinks the cat is interesting. I usually get either black or grey cats. Black cats often do not get homes because people have strange prejudices against them so I am more inclined to pick them so that they have a home. I always have my cats neutered or spayed. I refused to add to the overabundance of the cat population. I'm sure I will wait a while before getting a new one. I always get them from pet shelters and am thinking of getting an older cat that someone has had to give up or has been in the shelter for awhile.
I have had cats since childhood until, in my fifties, my beautiful cat succumbed to cancer.
Now that our condo unit will allow small animals my husband and I are considering
another kitty. My favourite animal.
Avec les chats j'ai appris deux choses : Que l'être humain peut être dressé, pas éduqué, mais dressé par son matou ; ensuite, jamais un humain ne possédera son chat alors que l'inverse est rigoureusement inexacte !!!
My kitties all have such incredible delightful personalities. Such wonderful little companions they are!
I've always been a total sucker for Cats, they've been such good little friends, probably wind up with another soon..

WOW! I knew I had some animals in the house, but thanks for explaining it more!! I have one who talks a lot. I know he loves and wants to play crunchy mouse or jingle bird on a string. Hes good at that! I have a wild animal!!
@Julie Reiner Julie, I'm with you. I just wish all cat people would have their animals spayed/neutered. You may think it's unnecessary to neuter a male, but he CAN father kittens & this should be avoided. Cats should not be treated as throwaway pets. People who will not spay their females or neuter their males are just selfish. Free or low-cost spay/neuter programs are available in most areas, I believe. Cats usually can survive without homes, but they are pitiful.
